Project locked by another user error

When opening a project the message 'This project is locked by another user', sometimes followed by corruption messages, prevents the project from being accessed. How can I get the project back?

If 'Safemode' has been enabled which allows projects to be opened across a network then another user may have the project 'Checked Out' and be working on it. If this is the case the project will need to be opened on that users computer and closed to allow the project to be checked back into the network folder.

The command ReleaseWSP can also be used to unlock a project that has been left in a locked state -however if safeMode is being used on your network this may not be a good idea as you may not have the most up to date copy of that project.
