Draw the 3-pole connections

▸To quicly draw the 3-pole connections, go to the ’Electrical’ Menu, ’Wire Connections’ pannel and choose ‘3 Wires’.

▸Then click on the first potential and select the corresponding terminal.

▸By default this function is set for a ‘5mm’ gride if you are using a different size, then you have to change it in the settings, otherwise the generated connexions will be misaligned.

Draw a Control command sheet

▸To draw a circuit diagram in general start by creating a new page, go to the ‘Workspace’ explorer, right-click on the ‘Circuit Diagrams’ node and select ‘New page’.

▸Then draw the required potentials, you can easily place them in their proper places by one click, to do so in the ‘Electrical’ Menu you can select to insert them in the ‘Top’ or in the ‘Bottom’.

▸After selecting the desired position the ‘Component Properties’ window will open, type the name of the potential and click on ‘Ok’.

▸After placing the potentials, start inserting the components symbols from the symbols database, go to the ‘Symbols’ explorer and expand the category that thedesired symbols are saved in by pressing on the ‘+’ button.

▸Then select the desired symbol, it will be attached to the cursor while you move around and click where you want to place it.

▸To draw a wire o to the ‘Electrical’ menu, in the ‘Wire Connections’ panel select ‘1 Wire’, then select the first connection point and the second and a connection wire will be drawn between the two.

▸If you want to automatically draw connection wires between symbols without placing them, in the ‘Electrical’ menu toggle on the option ‘Auto Connection’ in the ‘Wire Connections’ pannel.

▸Then put a symbol underneath an existing one and a connection wire will be drawn between the two.

▸To duplicate the circuit to use it multiple times in the same diagram page start by selecting it then press and hold the ‘Ctrl’ button on your keyboard and at the same time click and drag the selected circuit.

▸Then insert it where you want.

Draw and manage a wire

▸To draw a cable go to the ‘Electrical’ Menu, in the ‘Cable’ pannel select ‘Cable’.

▸Then the ‘Select a Cable’ Window appears, select the desired cable and click on ‘Ok’

▸You can also select a standard cable which no previously defined symbols are used for it by clicking on ‘Default’.

▸Then place the cable where you want, by selecting the first point then the second.

▸After placing the cable, the ‘Component Properties for Cable’ Window appears where you can edit the cable’s attributes.

▸Then click on ‘Ok’.

▸To define an auto numbering method, you should first insert a component code for the cables.

▸To do so click on the ‘Workspace’ Explorer and right click on the ‘Circuit Diagrams’ Node and select ‘Properties’.

▸Then select the ‘Cables’ Tab, in the ‘Component Code for automatic cable numbering’ type the code that you want to use.

▸And select the desired numbering method from the drop down menu.

▸Then click on ‘Ok’ and the ‘Auto Numbering’ method will name cables automatically after placing them (the newly chosen method will not affect the previously inserted cables).

▸To delete a cable, select it and right click on it then select ‘Delete’.

How to use Cross-Reference Symbols

▸If you want to draw the same wire in two pages you can use cross-reference symbols, there is two methods to insert them, the first one is by using the symbols database.

▸To do so open the ‘Electrical & Automation’ symbol database, open the ‘References’ symbol folder and select a reference symbol.

▸The second method is by double clicking while drawing a wire, to do so go to the ’Electrical’ Menu, ’Wire Connections’ pannel and choose ‘1 Wire’.

▸Then you can double click to create the symbol, the direction fo the symbol will be chosen automatically.

▸Then the ‘Component Properties’ window appears, where you can choose the name for the symbol.

▸After creating the first cross-reference symbol, you can place the second one in the next page with the same methods mentioned previously.

▸In the ‘Component Properties’ type the same name as the first one or you can find it by pressing on ‘Db’ button, the same reference can only be used twice.

▸After creating both symbols double clicking on the reference of one of them will redirect you to the other one.

Generate names for terminal strips semi-automatically

▸To generate names for terminal strips semi-automatically, start by choosing a numbering rule.

▸To do so , go to the ‘Workspace’ Explorer , select the folder that contains your diagram and schematic sheets right click on the’Circuit Diagrams’ node and choose properties

▸Then in the ‘Terminal Strips’ tab you can choose the component code, numbering method and the separator between the terminal strip and the number.

▸Click on ‘Ok’ to save your preferences.

▸The reason why this method is called ‘Semi-automatic numbering’ is because we have to manualy start a new terminal strip to automaticaly number its terminals.

▸To start a new terminal strip, after placing a terminal click on the ‘+1’ button in the ‘Component properties for terminals’ dialogue box.

Create and manage hyperlinks

▸To create hyperlinks start by selecting the symbol you want to be linked.

▸To do so , go to the ‘General’ Menu , ‘Select’ and choose ‘Normal’, the choosen symbol will be highlighted in red once you click on it.

▸Next , go to ‘Edit’ Menu, ‘hyperlink’ Panel and click on ‘Define’, By clicking a hyperlink window will appear.

▸In the hyperlink field you can paste an URL or a path to an existing file or by browsing your computer for it using the ‘…’ button.

▸To open a hyperlink, go to the ‘General’ Menu , ‘Select’ and choose ‘Normal’ and select the symbol you want to open its hyperlink.

▸Then , go to ‘Edit’ Menu, ‘hyperlink’ Panel and click on ‘Open’.

▸The linked file or Website will be opened.

▸To modify an existing hyperlink, select the symbol you want to modify its hyperlink, then in the ‘Edit’ Menu click on ‘Define’, By clicking a hyperlink window will appear with the previous path.

▸By modifying the previous path, the hyperlink will be redirected to the new one.

▸To view which symbols have a hyperlink, go to the ‘View’ Menu and click on ‘Hyperlink‘ in hyperlink panel.

▸All the linked symbols will be marked with a chain symbol.

▸To delete an existing hyperlink, go to the ‘General’ Menu , ‘Select’ and choose ‘Normal’ and select the symbol you want to delete its hyperlink.

▸Then , go to ‘Edit’ Menu, ‘hyperlink’ Panel and click on ‘Delete’, By clicking the selected hyperlink will be deleted.

Redlining objects

▸Redlining objects are graphical remarks inserted in the drawings which allows to leave notes, to create them go to the ‘Redlining’ Menu, in the ‘Draw Callouts’ pannel choose the shape that you want.

▸Then place the callout.

▸Once the callout is placed, a text window will appear where you can type in the desired callout text, and click on ‘Ok’.

▸To edit the callout go to the ‘Redlining’ Menu, in the ‘Edit Callouts’ panel click on ‘Edit Text Callouts’.

▸Then , click on the callout you want to edit its text.

▸Next a text window will appear where you can edit the previous text.

▸After editing the text you can close the window.

▸To move the callout go to the ‘Redlining’ Menu, in the ‘Select Callouts’ Panel click on ‘Select Callouts’.

▸Then select the callout you want to move.

▸Next in the ‘Edit Callouts’ panel click on ‘Move Callouts’.

▸Then click on a reference point, and move the cursor you should see the callout moves also.

▸To delete callouts, go to the ‘Redlining’ Menu, in the ‘Select Callouts’ Panel click on ‘Select Callouts’.

▸Then select the callout you want to delete, and in the ‘Select Callouts’ Panel click on ‘Delete’.

Generate a graphical list

▸You can fill your project informations in forms by generating graphical lists.

▸To do so , go to the ‘Workspace Exlorer’, Expand the ‘Graphical lists’ Node and select the graphical list you want to generate and click the right mouse button.

▸After clicking on ‘Generate’ the graphical list will be generated, double click to open it up.

Generate all desired graphical lists in one step

▸To generate all the desired graphical lists in one step, it is extremely necessary to have at least the Advanced level of SEE Electrical Software.

▸Then go to the ‘Workspace’ Explorer, right-click on the ‘Graphical lists’ node and click on ‘Generate’.

▸Then from the ‘Generate Graphical Lists’ Window choose the lists you want to generate by selecting on them and click on ‘Generate’.

Grouping components

▸You can save a commonly used circuits as a whole in the symbol database by grouping all of its components, to do so start by creating your circuit.

▸Then select the circuit and go to the ‘Edit’ Menu, in the ‘Actions’ Panel click on ‘Block’, and from the ‘Block/Component Definition’ box choose ‘Block’ and click on ‘Ok’.

▸The whole circuit has now been grouped as a single component.

▸To store the group in your symbols database, go to ‘Symbols’ Explorer, select a directory (or create a new one by right clicking on a category).

▸Drag the group (from the point you want to insert it from) into the desired folder, name it  and click on ‘OK’.

▸You should now see your circuit under the folder you put it in.

Smart box symbols

▸You can easily create a symbol with automatically generated connection points which aligns with existing wires, with one rectangle.

▸To do so , go to the ‘Draw’ Menu , and select ‘Rectangle’ and draw it on top of the wires that you want to create connection points with.

▸Next , add your attributes to show with the symbol ( optional ) .

▸Click on ‘Create new text’. After that , type a ‘.’ in the blank field and choose from the ‘Attribute’ drop down menu under ‘component’ the desired attribute, then place it and choose another one or you can close the window.

▸Now , to create the symbol , select the rectengular and texts, right click or in the ‘Edit’ Menu and choose ‘Block’.

▸Then in the ‘Block/Component Definition’ window selct ‘Smart Box’ and click ‘Ok’.

▸Now , give your symbol a prefix and click on ‘OK’ .

▸Then a message will appear asking you to select the lines that will automatically generate connection points.

▸And click on ‘Ok’.

▸Now select the lines which interfere with the wire where the connection point will be created.

▸After selecting the lines, right click to confirm.

▸The symbole is now created.

▸Now , grab and drag your symbol ( from the position you want to insert it from ) to the selected folder in the symbols database, name it and click on ‘OK’.

▸You should now see your symbol under the folder you put it in .

Insert and use new component in the Type database

▸In the type database editor you can create, edit and add types, manufacturers and goods groups, to open it go to the ‘Functions’ Menu, in the ‘Types’ panel select ‘Open Database’.

▸Then the ‘SEE Equipment Editor (Types)’ window appears.

▸To create a new type click on the ‘Add’ button on the bottom of the editor.

▸Then the ‘Add’ window will open.

▸After setting all the desired properties click on ‘Ok’.

▸If the type that you created has already a symbol assigned to it go to the ‘Functions’ Menu, in the ‘Component’ panel select ‘Add’.

▸Then the equipment browser window will open, double click on the desired component and click on ‘Ok’.

▸Then the symbols window will open click on the desired symbol and place it in the diagram.

▸If you want to assign the type for an existing symbol in the diagram, double click on it and the properties window will open.

▸Then in the type field you can either type the desired type’s name by the keyboard or you can click on the ‘Db’ button and find it in the database

▸In the the type database double click on the type and click on ‘OK’, and the type should be assigned to the symbol.

Insert Components not in the Drawing via the Database Editors

▸You can insert components without necessary putting them on the diagram, to do so start by expanding the ‘Database’ node in the ‘workspace’ explorer.

▸Next locate ‘Editor, Component Without Graphic’ and double click on it.

▸Then the editor’s page will open which contains a components list on the left, and a prproperties pane on th right.

▸Next on the components list, right click on the ‘Component Type’ tab and choose ‘Add new component’.

▸Then the ‘Block/Component Definition’ window will appear, select ‘Component’ and click on ‘Ok’.

▸Next the choosen element will be inserted in the database list even if it doesn’t exist in the circuit diagram.

▸You can modify its properties in the right pane of the editor.

▸To assign or edit properties go to the property pane on the right, in the ‘Text value’ column select the property that you want and type the desired value.

▸To add more properties go to the property pane on the right, click on the last blank row and a pull-down list of properties will appear.

▸Then you can scroll to find the desired property.

▸Once you confirm the value of the new property the blank row will appear again letting you add multiple properties with the same method.

▸To delete a component from the editor, select the component you want to remove and right click on it, from the select menu click on ‘Delete selected’.

Advanced Functionality for Potential Numbering

▸To define the way of numbering signals for each connection, you have to use ‘Define Signal Number’ command. to provide a definition for numbering.

▸Start by opening the ‘Electrical’ Menu , in the ‘Connections’ panel choose ‘Define Signal Number’, then click on a connection point which you potential is attached to.

▸Next , the ‘Define Signal Number’ window will appear.

▸Then you can select the entries that you want  from the ‘Components texts’ area and move it to the ‘Signal number definition’ area using the right arrow button, you can also remove them using the left arrow button.

▸After adding the first entry you can place a separator before adding the next one.

▸By adding the separator a window will appear with a text field where you can type the separation that you want and click on ‘Ok’.

▸After adding all the desired entries click on ‘Ok’.

▸Then you should update the numbering system by clicking on ‘Numbers’ in the ‘Electrical’ Menu and select ‘Generate’.

▸Then select ‘Delete numbers on signal(s)’, and click on ‘Ok’.

▸Next click on ‘Numbers’ again, select ‘Generate numbers on signal(s)’ and click on ‘Ok’.

▸Then you should be able to see the generated Number/Name on the connection.

Create compatible groups for automatic diagrams generation

▸In order to use groups/symbols in the automatic generation of circuit diagrams,  there are  some modifications that have to be made.

▸The component name, description and type must be replaced with texts from the Excel spreadsheet when the diagrams are generated, to do so replace the texts of the components with text placeholders.

▸In the ‘Draw’ Menu, select ‘New Text’.

▸Then the ‘Text’ window will open.

▸In the ‘Attribute’ Field select ‘Normal Text’.

▸Then in the Excel spreadsheet specify in which column the right identification is included (if you want to place the name of the group/symbol, and the column E contains the component name, then the placeholder will be ‘#E’ )

▸After placing all the texts (for component name, description and type) we have to specify the starting point and the end point of the group.

▸To do so, in the ‘Attribute’ field, expand the ‘Other’ Node.

▸And select ‘Symbol Start Marker’. Then, in the text field , type what you want to display for the start marker and place it where the group starts in the diagram.

▸After placing the start marker, select ‘Symbol End Marker’ from the ‘Other’ node in the ‘Attribute’ field, withe the same method type what you want to display for the end marker and place it where the group ends in the diagram.

▸It is important to carefully choose the places for the markers because when the page is automatically generated the start marker of the next group will be placed over the end marker of the first group, etc

▸After placing the markers you can close the ‘Text’ Window, then select all the components that you want to group (including the previously placed texts), right click and choose ‘Block’

▸Then the ‘Block/Component Definition’ window will open, select ‘Block’ and click on ‘Ok’.

▸To save it, you should have a symbols database that you use only for the automatic generation of circuit diagrams, in the ‘Symbols’ explorer expand the ‘Auto Generation’ category and locate the folder where you want to save it in.

▸If you want to create a new folder right click on the ‘Auto Generation’ category and select ‘New folder’.

▸Then click on the the group and drag it form the point which you placed the start marker on, and drop it into the folder.

Generate circuit diagrams from Excel files using the Autogen module

▸The ‘Autogenerate’ Module lets you generate circuit diagrams from a Microsoft Excel sheet or Microsoft Access database by using special symbols (groups).

▸So if you want to automatically generate circuit diagrams it is necessary to have it installed.

▸To auto generate circuit diagrams make sure that to create a new project because any previously existing data may be overwritten after the generation of the project.

▸Then go to the ‘Workspace’ explorer, right click on the ‘Circuit diagram’ node and select ‘Auto Generate Diagrams’.

▸And the auto generate window will open, in the ‘Source Data’ tab click on the ‘…’ browse button and select the Excel file that you want to generate your diagrams from.

▸In the ‘Page number to start’ you specify which page number the automatic project engineering must start with, make sure that no circuit diagrams must be present after the defined start page number otherwise they will be deleted.

▸Then go to the ‘Workspace’ tab and in the ‘Sheet name’ type the name of the sheet in the excel file that contains the information of the workspage which is in this example ‘ProjectInfo’.

▸For the fields From/To you should fill them with the first/last fields from the Excel sheet that contains project information diagonally with this method.

▸For the field ‘Column TextID’ type in the letter of the column in the Excel sheet that contains the TextID data.

▸For the field ‘Column text’ type in the letter of the column of the Excel sheet that contains the workspace information entries.

▸Then go to the ‘Page’ tab and fill the ‘Sheet name’ field with the same method as shown previously.

▸And for the ‘From/To’ fields.

▸And the same thing goes for the field ‘Column TextID’.

▸And also for the field ‘Column text’

▸Then go to the ‘Symbol’ tab and in the ‘Sheet name’ type the name of the sheet in the excel file that contains the information of the groups/symbols which is in this example ‘Symbols’.

▸For the fields From/To you should fill them with the first/last fields from the ‘Symbols’ sheet that contains groups/symbols informations diagonally with this method.

▸In the Symbol ‘database/folder’ panel type the ‘Database’ and the ‘Folder’ where the groups/symbols that you want to use are stored, please note that you can choose only one folder.

▸In the ‘Module position’ panel you can choose between two methods of placing the groups/symbols:

▸By selecting the first method you have to specify the coordinates where the start marker of the first module will be placed and the coordinates where the module can not be placed and a new page will be created

▸By selecting ‘Use X and Y position’ method you should already have an ‘X/Y’ columns in the symbols sheet where each module has its own position coordinates.

▸Then if you used ‘Alias’ as a text spaceholders go to the ‘Alias’ tab otherwise you can skip this tab, and in the ‘Sheet name’ field type the name of the sheet in the excel file that contains the informations of the alias which is in this example ‘Alias’.

▸And for the fields From/To you should fill them with the first/last fields from the Excel sheet that contains alias informations.

▸For the field ‘Column alias name’ type in the letter of the column in the Excel sheet that contains the alias data.

▸For the field ‘Column for alias lookup’ type in the letter of the column of the Excel sheet that specifies in which columns of the Excel’s ‘Symbols’ sheet the texts for the components must be searched.

▸Then you can click on the ‘Apply’ to save these preferences as preset or you can also click on the ‘Export’ button in the ‘Source Data’ tab and a ‘.AutoGen’ file will be generated where all your preferences are stored, you can use it in other projects by clicking on ‘Import’.

▸Then click on ‘OK’ and the circuit diagrams should be generated.

Thermal calculation module

▸To calculate the thermal performance of your cabinet and the required power for a cooling solution, it is necessary to have the thermal calculation module.

▸First go to the ‘Workspace’ Explorer, right click on the ‘Cabinet’ Node and select ‘Properties’.

▸Then in the ‘Page template’ field click on the down arrow and select the desired thermal dissipation pannel.

▸And right click on the ‘Cabinets’ node and select new page.

▸This specific page has to be created when the program makes the calculations.

▸And the ‘Thermal Dissipation Calculation’ will be created.

▸Then go to the ‘Commands’ Explorer, type the ‘PanelThermalDissipation’ Command and press on enter.

▸When the ‘Cabinet Thermal Diddipation’ opens click on add or choose an existing configuration.

▸Then give a name and a description to the configuration.

▸Select the configuration and click on ‘Next’, and a list of all the used components will appear, click on ‘Next’ again.

▸And the ‘Thermal Dissipation Calculator’ will open.

▸In the ‘Panel’ Tab you can type the cabinet dimensions, choose the materiel and the type of installation, and the Temperature inside/outside the cabinet.

▸In the ‘Equipments’ Tab you can assign/edit the dissipated power of each equipment and of the busbar you can also choose the working coefficient.

▸In the ‘Calculation’ Tab you can see a preview of the results so you can make changes before generating them.

▸Then click on finish to confirm.

▸And the final results should be generated on the ‘Panel Thermal Dissipation calculation’ page.

Create a cabinet using the picklist

▸You can create a cabinet layout as a part of the circuit diagram and you can place the components used in your circuit diagram easily by using the ‘Picklist’ function, to do so it is necessary to have the standard level of SEE Electrical Software with the cabinet module.

▸Start by selecting the page template which determine the scale for drawing, To do so in the ‘workspace’ explorer right click on the ‘Cabinets’ node and select properties.

▸Next to create a new page in the cabinets module, in the ‘workspace’ explorer right click on the ‘Cabinets’ node and select new page.

▸Next go to the ‘Cabinet’ Menu and select ‘panel’, to precisely draw the panel place the first point on the page and press on the space bar.

▸The the ‘Define Distance’ window will appear.

▸To draw cable/wire channels go to the ‘Cabinet’ Menu, in the ‘Elements’ panel select ‘cabel/wire channel’ and the ‘Draw Channel’ window appears.

▸Then insert your desired dimentions.

▸After clicking on ‘Insert’ the channel will be attached to the cursor and you can place where you want in the panel;.

▸The channel will stay attached in case you want to place multiple ones, right click cancel.

▸You can place rails with the exact same way as placing Cable/Wire channels, just go to the ‘Cabinet’ Menu, in the ‘Elements’ panel select ‘Rail’ and follow the previous method.

▸You can easily place the components whitch are used in your circuit diagram using the Pick List.

▸To open the pick list go to the ‘Functions’ Menu, in the ‘Other’ Panel click on ‘Pick List’.

▸To place a component just double click on it, the list then will close and the selected component will be attached to the cursor to place it in the cabinet.

▸Once a component is placed on a rail they will be grouped together, so to move it right click and choose ‘Select Component’ from the context menu.

▸Then select the component, right click and choose ‘Move’.

▸Next click on the component and move the cursor where you want to put it.

▸To delete a component place on a rail right click and choose ‘Select Component’ from the context menu.

▸Then select the component, right click and choose ‘Delete’.
